Five cookies in total, and you control two of them

What we mean by a cookie

A small text file the site asks your browser to keep, so that something can be remembered between one page and the next. Nothing here can read files on your computer or see anything you do on other websites.

The three we cannot turn off

• smb_consent remembers what you chose in the banner, so it stops appearing. Twelve months. Ironically, refusing cookies requires one.
• smb_basket holds the courses you added, so the basket survives a refresh. Thirty days, and it stores course codes and quantities, nothing about you.
• A session cookie keeps the order form honest and helps stop automated spam. It disappears when you close the browser.

Measurement, only if you agreed

smb_stats counts page views and how far down a lesson people scroll. That is genuinely all we do with it: it tells us which two lessons keep getting abandoned so we know which two to re-record. It lasts thirteen months, the numbers are aggregated, and none of it is sold or shared with an advertiser.

Advertising, only if you agreed

smb_ads exists so that when someone arrives from an advert, we can tell whether that advert led anywhere. Six months. It is off unless you turned it on, the site behaves identically without it, and no part of the course experience changes either way.

What we do not run

No session recording, no heatmaps, no scroll-watching that plays your visit back to us, no cross-site tracking pixels, no data broker anywhere in the chain. If any of that ever changes, the banner will ask again rather than assume.

Things that load with the page

The typefaces come from Google Fonts and the icons from jsDelivr. Neither sets a cookie on this site, but both see your IP address as part of serving the file, in the same way any content network does. The order form is handled by an outside form service, which sees only what you typed into it.

Changing your mind

Open the panel and switch things on or off, or clear the lot with one button. Withdrawing takes effect immediately and puts you back exactly where you would have been if you had never agreed in the first place.

Doing it in your browser instead

Every browser can block or delete cookies without our help, usually under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking everything is fine and nothing important breaks: the basket simply forgets what you put in it, and the consent banner reappears on every visit, because the cookie that remembers your answer is the one you blocked.

If you never answer the banner

Nothing optional loads. The banner keeps its place at the bottom of the screen and the site carries on working, because everything that matters runs on the three cookies you cannot switch off anyway. We do not treat silence as a yes, and we do not re-ask on every single page to wear you down.

Tell us at [email protected] and we will look at it the same week. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, which regulates this in the United Kingdom, and you do not need to speak to us first.
